Introducing LCAlink Version 3.0: Expanded Features for Enhanced Assessments

We’re excited to announce the release of LCAlink Version 3.0! This update builds on the existing features of our tool, adding powerful new features to make your workflows smoother and your assessments more comprehensive.

1. New Modelled Elements
One of the key upgrades is the addition of new modelled elements to the “LCAlink Material Assignment” dialogue box. While previous versions already covered walls, floors, roofs, columns, and foundations, Version 3.0 now includes:

  • Doors and Windows: These family-type elements are now seamlessly recognised in LCAlink, enabling direct LCA material assignment.

  • Generic Models: Most generic models can now be assigned LCA materials, enhancing flexibility and reducing manual adjustments.

  • Custom Items: For elements not automatically detected within BIM or Revit—such as handrails, ceiling suspension system, wall stud system, stairs and elevators—this feature ensures you can include them in your calculations without requiring manual post-processing.

This update ensures no element overlooked, further streamlining the process and improving accuracy in your LCA assessments.

2. Additional Tools
In addition to capturing more model elements, Version 3.0 introduces several new tools to simplify workflow and enhance usability.

  • Extra Material Option: Directly assign paint layers to walls or other surfaces without the need to explicitly model them.
  • Auditing Tool: Identify project elements missing assigned materials, ensuring items that may be overlooked in spreadsheets or schedules are captured.
  • Refresh Tool: Acting as a fail-safe, the refresh tool ensures data updates are applied correctly, allowing you to refresh the window for smooth synchronization.

3. Filter Tools
To improve data management and analysis, we’ve added filter tools that allow you to:
  • Filter by Phases: Focus on specific project phases to streamline your assessments across different timelines.
  • Filter by Level: Narrow your view to specific floor levels, such as focusing only on the basement or individual storeys.

Looking Ahead
While Version 3.0 is currently limited to Revit 2024, we’re actively working on compatibility with Revit 2025, which we plan to release very soon. Additionally, we’re already developing the next version of LCAlink, expected to launch in the new year. This will extend the scope of tools and capabilities, offering even more features to support your sustainable design assessments.

Remember to leave behind feedback and suggestions for what you would like to see addressed in future updates.

LCAlink is designed by users, for users, and your input helps us ensure we are developing a tool that meets the needs of the industry.
